New gear highlights: September 18, 2020

Two new brands join the Sportsbikeshop offering and Superman swoops in on HJC in this week’s new gear round-up…

LS2 Valiant 2

LS2’s popular convertible Valiant lid has been upgraded for 2020 to create the Valiant 2.

Updates begin with redesigned ventilation – the forehead and chin vents are now larger to allow more cool air through, while exhaust vents have been added.

The visor is new too. It’s now easier to change thanks to a new mechanism that doesn’t require tools as the previous Valiant did.

The chinbar flips over the top of the helmet in the same way as the old Valiant and secures at the back of the head, giving the open-face riding experience.

The Valiant 2 also keeps the Pinlock MaxVision visor (with insert included) and internal sunvisor operated by with a sliding switch on the base. A handy backpack is also included with the helmet to help riders carry it around when off the bike.

It launches with an RRP of £249.99 for plain colours and £269.99 for graphics in sizes XS-3XL. The original Valiant continues into 2020 but only in plain colours.

Shad SL86 rucksack

Spanish luggage brand Shad are new to Sportsbikeshop and their SL86 rucksack reflects life in the company’s home city of Barcelona.

Its 26-litre capacity includes a lined pouch to store and protect a large laptop and there are various pockets for keeping work items in good nick on the city commute.

Additionally, the outer pocket zips out and extends to create a mesh stash big enough to carry a full-face helmet.

A chest strap helps keep the padded shoulder straps from separating in the windblast, and a waist belt keeps the weight close to the order’s back for extra support.

The new bag features reflective material for city safety, comes with a rain cover and launches with an RRP of £56.99.

Shad SL58 saddlebag

Throwover panniers are useful for riders who want the flexibility of strapping on luggage for a short notice trip without having mounts for hard boxes bolted to their bike.

Shad’s SL58 panniers have 46 litres of room in their slimmest state, but expansion zips allow them to open up and take on an extra six litres each, making the 58 litres mentioned in the title.

They mount using supplied Velcro straps or there’s the option of a specific support kit for a limited number of bikes or an option to mount a support that attaches to Shad’s topbox mounts for a wider range of machines.

For those concerned the bags will get too close to their exhaust, there’s an optional extra protector to insulate against the heat.

The SL58 bags come with a rain cover included and each bag has external pockets for easy access to bits and bobs on a trip. The launch RRP is £118.99.

HJC R-PHA 11 – Superman

One of the most notable names in DC superhero history lends his iconic livery to HJC’s R-PHA 11 helmet.

The gloss-finished lid carries the iconic ‘S’ emblem on the top with a smaller version in gold on the back, and is finished with reds and golds aiming to replicate the Man of Steel’s suit.

The R-PHA 11 is HJC’s range-topping race lid, and has a carbon-fibre and fibreglass construction, Pinlock visor with insert included and a tool-less visor removal system for fuss-free visor changes.

The Superman graphic launches at £499.99 in sizes XS-XL.
