New gear highlights: September 27, 2019

New wacky paintschemes from Icon lead the way in this week’s new gear highlights, closely followed by a handful of Oxford and just a dash of FLM…

New Icon Airflite graphics

Icon’s loud and lairy designs are always a hit and their autumn collection features 19 new designs. We’ve whittled it down to our two favourites.

The new Pleasuredome 3 graphic sits on Icon’s Airflite lid, and features explosions, cars and trucks, gun-toting blokes and a cigar-smoking woman. The dark grey rear spoiler and gloss black top vent switches complement the wacky design.

Then there’s the Trumbull graphic, which is also on the Airflite. Three tigers on the sides and back keep a watchful eye with their milk-white eyes, and are ready to pounce with their razor-sharp teeth. The popping reds and subtle yellows make this aggressive graphic really stand out.

The Icon Airflite has a polycarbonate shell construction, drop-down sunvisor and a removable HydraDry moisture-wicking liner. The lid is customisable too – you can change the standard spoiler, the drop-down sunvisor and the clear Fliteshield visor for different coloured ones to better match your helmet.

Both new graphics have launched at £229.99 in sizes XS-3XL.

FLM Ladies Tour Nubuck leather jacket 1.0

The new FLM Ladies Tour Nubuck leather jacket promises to be stylish yet versatile enough to tackle different riding conditions.

We all know dark colours absorb more light, but the coating of TFL’s Cool Tec sun reflective treatment means the sun’s rays will bounce back off this jacket rather than being absorbed, keeping you cooler on hotter rides.

The jacket will suit tours as well as city riding, thanks to multiple zipped vents on the chest, back and forearms. A removable thermal liner is also on hand in case the temperature drops.

It’s equipped with CE-certified shoulder and elbow armour, and there’s also a pocket for an optional back protector. Stretch panels on the elbows and pre-curved arms provide extra and instant comfort, while both long and short connection zips allow attachment of the matching jeans.

It’s available in black, and has launched at £179.99 in sizes 8-14. There’s also a mens option, which has launched at £189.99 in sizes M-4XL.

Oxford Tucson leather gloves

Oxford’s new Tucson gloves offer safety and bags of ventilation while retaining the heritage style.

The outer leather construction is fully perforated to deal with hotter rides – understandable, considering they’re named after a desert city in Arizona, US.

Hard protectors on the fingers as well as knuckle protection certified to CE Level 1 take care of impact protection, while a leather overlay on the little fingers and palms increases abrasion resistance.

Accordion stretch panels on the back of the hands provide more flexibility, and touchscreen-friendly fingertips and thumbs mean easy use of smartphones and sat-navs without taking the gloves off.

The Tucson gloves launch at £49.99 in sizes S-3XL. They’re available in brown (pictured) and black.

Oxford Waterproof Oxsocks

Hardly a new item to get the heart beating faster, but waterproof socks can be a real blessing.

Those without waterproof boots get to experience the joy of dry feet in winter, and those with short waterproof boots don’t have to worry about rain running in through the main opening.

Oxford’s new three-layer offerings sandwich a waterproof and breathable membrane between a knitted nylon outer and a seamless inner lining made mostly from acrylic and merino wool.

They’re available in two colours – blue or black and in the sizes are small (4-6), medium (7-9) and large (10-12). The socks are launching at £39.99 per pair.
