Five of the best… waterproof sports boots

Five of the best… waterproof sports boots

 ADAM PIGOTT

If you live outside the UK you might wonder about us Brits and our obsession with waterproof kit.

But those of us who spend our riding lives on these isles know that even the bluest sky can turn seriously leaky in a split second.

The boots here all do the work of sports boots, but with a breathable and waterproof membrane to keep feet dry if the weather turns.

Richa Drift Waterproof

£79.99
Sportsbikeshop customers highly rate these boots – out of the first 184 customer reviews, they scored an average of 4.70 stars.  Reviews say to go up a size from your usual but that they’re good for riders with wider feet. They’re geared towards sports touring with the absence of ankle bracing, which means extra flexibility. Protection-wise, they have Level 2 CE approval.

Spada Curve Evo WP

£95.99
These aren’t the cheapest sports boot on the market, but spending a bit extra will get you full protective ankle bracing. The overall feeling from Sportsbikeshop customers is that they’re comfortable and well-made, but they say you may need to go up a size from your usual. Out of their first 32 customer reviews, the boots received an average of 4.69 stars.

RST Tractech Evo 3 CE Waterproof

£111.99
Popular for their abundance of features but lower price tag, the Tractech Evo 3 Waterproof boots score an average of 4.72 stars from the first 53 reviews. While Sportsbikeshop customers praise their looks and waterproof ability, they do note that the boots take a while to break in, and that sizing up by at least one size from your usual is essential.

Richa Rain Tech

£79.99
Achieving a 4.71-star average from their first 28 reviews, Richa’s Rain Tech boots receive compliments for their waterproofing, comfort and for the value for money they offer. Sportsbikeshop customers recommend sizing up at least one size from your usual in these boots because of a narrow fit. Once the size is right, it’s noted that while they’re initially a little tight, they break in nicely and become comfortable very quickly.

Alpinestars SMX-6 V2 Drystar

£206.99
Receiving an average of 4.83 stars from their first 18 reviews, Alpinestars’ SMX-6 V2 boots use the brand’s own Drystar waterproof lining, which Sportsbikeshop customers insist is effective. Reviewers say the boots are comfortable with hardly any breaking in period and that the leather is soft, supple and allows for plenty of movement. Some do note that the ankle bracing is a little squeaky, but isn’t loud enough to bother them.
